This medal has the distinction of being the first medal commemorating Washington to be struck in America. Designed by Samuel Brooks, a Philadelphia goldsmith and seal cutter, it was issued & sold by Jacques Manly. At the time, medals in white metal sold for $1, in silver sold for $4, while this one, of brass, sold for $2.
