In opposition to the Jacobites, who wanted the Stuarts restored to the British throne, this plate shows preference to the Hanover kings. A punch bowl inscribed "Long Livee the King" (CWF accession 1973-329) and a plate inscribed "Duke William For Ever" (accession 1977-396) express the same sentiments. Plate fragments with a similar wreath pattern have been excavated at Temple Back and Limekiln Lane in Bristol and at Wetherburn's Tavern in Williamsburg (9NA.1536).
