Longstanding cultural and technological differences characterized the dozens of distinctive native peoples of eastern North America at the close of the Seven Years War. There were perhaps 150,000 remaining in the British colonies among the Iroquois, Shawnees, Senecas, Delawares, and other tribes, many of whom harbored deep hostility toward the British government and provincials who settled in the western regions of the colonies.
