French Begin to Leave Williamsburg

After spending the eight months following Cornwallis's surrender in the former capital, the French army begins the journey back to France. The Comte de Rochambeau tells the people of the town "During the time I have spent with you I have enjoyed those social qualities by which the inhabitants of this great and flourishing country are so eminently distinguished."
