Parliament Calls for End to Offensive Operations in America

Henry Seymour Conway steers a resolution through the House of Commons that would effectively end any further attempts to reduce the American colonies to submission and send an address to George III declaring anyone who advocates continuing the war an enemy of the King and of the nation. Less than three weeks later, the North ministry officially falls with North's resignation on March 20. On April 12, the new Shelburne ministry opens informal peace talks with the Americans.
