Virginia Moves Capital from Williamsburg to Richmond

Virginia's House of Delegates approves Jefferson's bill to move the government of the new state to Richmond. Some leaders, such as George Mason and Edmund Pendleton, object because of the expense but others are convinced by the costly British invasion in May that Williamsburg is too vulnerable to an enemy attack. The new government is in place in Richmond by April 24, 1780.
