Howe Marches into Philadelphia
After several minor and inconsequential engagements, British Commander-in-Chief William Howe captures Philadelphia, marching into the city at 8:30 a.m. The Continental Congress flees west to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and then to York, where it remains until June 1778.
