British Capture Fort Ticonderoga

British forces under John Burgoyne walk into Fort Ticonderoga after the American garrison commanded by Arthur St. Clair abandons it on July 5. It was a major boost to British morale, leading George III to declare "I have beat them! I have beat all the Americans!" For Burgoyne, by letting the American get away, it merely provided a base for his continuing campaign into New York.
