Washington Defeats Hessians at the Battle of Trenton
Faced with the dwindling morale and the expiration of the enlistment terms of thousands of his soldiers, Washington crosses the Delaware River in southeastern Pennsylvania on Christmas and then attacks the Hessian troops at Trenton, New Jersey, forcing their surrender by 9:30 a.m.
