George III Proclaims the Colonies in Open Rebellion

The King effectively ends all attempts at reconciliation by issuing the Proclamation for Suppressing Rebellion and Sedition, which explains that because Americans "have at length proceeded to open and avowed rebellion," all British civil and military officers, as well as loyal subjects, are commanded "to use their utmost endeavours to withstand and suppress" it.
