First Continental Congress Meets in Philadelphia

Virginia's Peyton Randolph is elected President of the First Continental Congress, which sits until October 26. Delegates from 12 colonies (all except Georgia) adopt resolves that respectfully state colonial rights and call for the repeal of offensive parliamentary acts. It also establishes the Continental Association, an intercolonial non-importation and non-exportation agreement that directed towns and counties in every colony to establish committees of inspection to enforce it.
