Lord Dunmore Arrives in Williamsburg

More than a year after being appointed governor of Virginia, the Earl of Dunmore arrives in Williamsburg. On October 31, he hold a ball at the Governor's Palace and opens the Raleigh Tavern to entertain, at his expense, those who choose not to attend the ball. A newspaper reported that "The city was handsomely illuminated, plenty of liquor was given to the populace."
