Grafton Ministry Falls, Lord North Becomes Prime Minister

After the contentious "Horned-Cattle Session" of Parliament during which Lord Camden called the conduct of the ministry against John Wilkes and the American colonies "violent and tyrannical," the Duke of Grafton resigns as First Lord of the Treasury. He is succeeded by Frederick, Lord North, who will run the British government for the next 12 years and become known as "the man who lost America."
