Virginia Assembly Meets, Peyton Randolph Elected Speaker of the House of Burgesses

At the next meeting of the assembly, the Virginia House of Burgesses—a third of which is comprised of new members—elects Peyton Randolph its new Speaker and drafts an address of thanks to George III for agreeing to the repeal of the Stamp Tax. The King "very graciously" receives the thanks on March 23, 1767.
