Prime Minister George Grenville Resigns, Rockingham Ministry Begins
George Grenville, the driving force behind the Stamp Act, is dismissed from office by George III. He is succeeded five days later by a government headed by the Marquess of Rockingham, who opposes the Stamp Act and advocates its repeal.
