One of the few medals struck during the American Revolution that directly relates to events as they were happening, this English made piece bears Dutch legends. By showing Admiral "Black Dick" Howe's flagship and the weak American forces fleeing across Aquidneck Island (Newport, RI) in the face of the mighty Royal Navy, the issuer was hoping to convince the Netherlands not to sign the Treaty of Armed Neutrality.
